Case 39

I am officially one week strong on this undertaking, and I will be pretty impressed with myself if I manage to go every day, but, no worries, I think I got this! Tonight was another movie that I wanted to see in theaters but for a reason I can't remember, I didn't get around to it. I was pretty impressed with whoever put this cast together, Renee Zellweger, Bradley Cooper and Jodelle Ferland (well, maybe not so much her), could all be talked into doing a horror movie together in 2010. But then I saw this movie was shot in 2006 (Hangover came out in 09), so Cooper wasn't the star he is now. I couldn't talk my sister Heather into watching the original Hellraiser so after about an hour of looking through the Netflix, me, her, and A-Dawg decided to watch...

Case 39 (2010) First thing I have to address, watch this trailer... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsYrH79lhnA then completely forget EVERYTHING they show you in it. It's like the trailer and the movie are driving down the same highway together, and all of a sudden lock eyes. One of them gets uncomfortable and takes the next exit to get as far away from the other as possible. Now, the movie has been out long enough that people who saw the trailer have completely forgot about it (thank you IMDB for your FAQ!) so it's not too big of a deal, but if I went into expecting one thing and they went a completely different way, I'd be pissed. The last time that happened to me was the horribly named Funny People, or as I'd call it, Unfunny People, yeah!

Now as far as the movie goes, I liked it. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it. It has some good scares and whenever Jodelle has the subtle and not-so subtle changes, it is actually really scary. The story is pretty good, nothing that'll make me go back and watch the movie again, but you can tell it's not bad when it's 1:40 in the AM and I don't really have any gripes. My only nit I guess was there wasn't enough Bradley Cooper, because truth be told, I like Bradley Cooper and he just makes movies better. Now I know having said that someone's going to chime in with a movie that sucked that he was in, my response, it's late, I'm tired, and I don't wanna look at his filmography, so don't be a dick.

I take it back, the thing I didn't like was when Jodelle and Bradley Cooper were having their one-on-one session. I understand why they did it, but it seemed out of character for her and was just weird. Throughout the movie Jodelle had a subtle creepiness about her, until the end was never overtly dominating. It's hard to explain but I liked her sly evil a whole lot more than her smug bitchiness towards Cooper. After that part she quickly reverted back to her creepy evil and the movie was better for it.

6.5 Dr Chainsaws!

Not a bad movie by any stretch of the imagination, but it was something to watch, enjoy, then move on. Not a bad way to kill 2 hours.
