Mr. Pat
Since 2010, Mr. Pat has reviewed a horror movie every single day in October. What started as one fan’s Halloween passion project has evolved into a tradition that now spans fifteen years and over 430 reviews. He has never missed a day. Every October 1, the projector flickers on, and for 31 nights, audiences can count on a steady stream of monsters, slashers, haunted houses, and the occasional truly terrible film.

A proud son of Toledo, Ohio, Mr. Pat brings a mix of humor, sinister wit, and Midwestern sarcasm to his writing. His favorite series is Friday the 13th, although he has never shied away from covering the full spectrum of horror, from timeless classics to the strangest oddities unearthed from VHS bargain bins. His reviews are scored on the famous “Dr. Chainsaws” scale, ranked from 1 to 10 in half-point increments. Readers have learned that a 4.5 from Mr. Pat is sometimes more entertaining than a perfect 10, because half the fun is hearing him wrestle with the truly bizarre corners of the genre.

What sets Mr. Pat apart is that this is not a job. His reviews are not professional assignments or polished studio releases. They are an act of love. Each review is a tribute to the everyday person who enjoys sitting down with a scary movie in October. He writes not as a critic above the audience but as a fan alongside them, someone who knows the joy of dimming the lights, grabbing the popcorn, and letting the scares roll.

Over the years, Mr. Pat’s reach has expanded beyond the written word. He has launched a fledgling YouTube channel and has plans to bring his reviews more to life on screen. Still, the written reviews remain the heart of his project, because here the voice of a fan rings clearest. Whether he is praising a classic or skewering a clunker, Mr. Pat continues to keep the Halloween spirit alive, one Dr. Chainsaw at a time.
